⚙️ *TECHNICAL INSIGHT #03 | VACUUM SYSTEMS*

Can vacuum piping be sized the same way as compressed-air piping?

*Not necessarily.*

In a vacuum system, poor piping design can significantly reduce the vacuum actually available at the machine.

Important factors include:

• *Pipe diameter*
• *Total line length*
• *Number of bends and fittings*
• *Leakage*
• *Simultaneous demand*
• *Required vacuum level at the process*
• *Distance from the vacuum pump*

A vacuum pump may be performing correctly…

…but if the piping is restrictive or leaking, the process may still suffer.

*The vacuum level that matters is the vacuum available at the machine during actual operation.*

_The pump creates the vacuum._

*The piping determines how effectively that vacuum reaches the process.*
